Update on NESB Debit Cards and Recent Activity

Please know that we are aware of a current scheme being pushed across the United States Debit Card payments network.

The type of scheme currently underway is commonly referred to as a “BIN Attack” or Bank Identification Number Attack. The most important thing to know is that this attack is not a breach, hack, or compromise of our digital infrastructure in anyway. BIN Attacks target debit card numbers at random, and not account numbers or personal identification information.

Also referenced as “Brute Force BIN Attacks,” these occur when fraudsters use sophisticated software to search for a group of debit card numbers and then execute unlimited guesses until a transaction is processed.

The Bank has detection and deterrence software that we use in collaboration with our network partners and other national, regional, and local banks. We are working with our partners to identify and mitigate the attempts being made on the national debit card payments network.

If you feel as though your card may have been compromised, please connect with our contact center at 508-238-2007 or call our debit card fraud line at 833-249-0524.

Kindly note that current call times may be longer than normal when connecting with our contact center.

Self-Serve Debit Card Controls:

Within our mobile app, you have complete control over your debit card and how or when it is used. NESB Mobile provides control by allowing/blocking transactions by purchase type, merchant category, region (international/domestic), and transaction amount. Additionally, you can set customized purchase activity alerts. And at a global level, you can very easily turn your card on or off as needed.
